Check the Journey Church Facebook Page for the full service video from this week. Here are some additional thoughts that may not have made it into the message.

Defining church

Last week I shared a post with some definitions that will help to keep us all on the same page as work through this vision series. As I prepared for this week I realized that one of the definitions I gave for church was incomplete. I defined the local church, small “c church, as “a local, organized group of Christians.” However, this definition leaves some people out.

A new definition

So, during the message yesterday I shared an updated definition for what I believe the local church is. That new definitions is:

“A local, organized group of Christians and people curious about, seeking to learn about, or desiring a relationship with Jesus, even if they haven’t yet made the decision to commit to Jesus.”

Are lost people part of the church?

I know that some may argue against this definition. I will say that in order to be part of the big “C”, the collection of all Christians around the world, you do need to have made the decision to commit to Jesus. However, truth is that most of us, Christians, were part of a local church before we made the decision to commit to Jesus. For me it was as part of a local church that I heard the gospel, and came to faith in Jesus Christ. If not committing to Christ had meant I couldn’t be part of that church, then I might never have come to Christ. This is true for a great many other Christians as well.

Welcome to Journey Church

Bottom line is this. If you are a Christian who has made the decision to commit your life to Jesus, you are welcome at Journey Church. If you are curious about all this Jesus stuff, you are welcome at Journey Church. If you want to learn about Jesus, in order to make a decision, or way or another, you are welcome at Journey Church. If you have come to a point in your life where you’re desiring a relationship with Jesus, you are welcome at Journey Church. If you wouldn’t say that you fall into any of these categories, you are still welcome at Journey Church.
