We often want God to forgive us. Even those among us that don't think we deserve forgiveness, still want it. Matthew 6:12 talks about this. It asks God to forgive our debts, even as we have forgiven those who owe us a debt. When Jesus spoke this, was He saying that God will not forgive us if we don't forgive others?
It's not that simple.
The truth is that this issue is not that simple. To take it that way would, at least imply that we could some how EARN forgiveness from God. It would also imply that, once received, hat forgiveness could be revoked. Neither of these is true.
So, what does it mean?
Ultimately, we can say for certain that forgiveness is important. In fact it is vital. The irony of refusing to forgive someone is that it seldom has any effect on THEM, but it will tear YOU apart. So, what exactly is Jesus saying here? Well, I'll be talking more about that this Sunday.
